Portions of cities have attempted to secede from the city, usually winning the secession referendum vote and then getting blocked by the city or state. Failures include:

Killington, Vermont, voted twice (2005 and 2006) to join New Hampshire.

The town of Rough and Ready, California declared its secession from the Union as The Great Republic of Rough and Ready on 7 April 1850, largely to avoid mining taxes, but voted to rejoin the Union less than three months later on 4 July.

tates have walls in the sense that a state can decide who to give benefits to. For example if you want in-state tuition, your family has to have a record of living in the state. Unemployment benefits often hinge on your previous work history in the state. A smart red state would tie benefits to how long you have lived in the state. Blue states such as California give benefits to everyone, and so people seeking benefits will go to blue states and avoid red states.

The constitution has a clause inviting Canadian states into the USA.

Articles of Confederation, XI: "Canada acceding to this confederation, and adjoining in the measures of the United States, shall be admitted into, and entitled to all the advantages of this Union; but no other colony shall be admitted into the same, unless such admission be agreed to by nine States"

Texas has the constitutional right to divide into 5 states, without needing congressional approval.

The Joint Resolution for Annexing Texas to the United States, approved by Congress on March 1, 1845, states:

New States of convenient size not exceeding four in number, in addition to said State of Texas and having sufficient population, may, hereafter by the consent of said State, be formed out of the territory thereof, which shall be entitled to admission under the provisions of the Federal Constitution; and such states as may be formed out of the territory lying south of thirty-six degrees thirty minutes north latitude, commonly known as the Missouri Compromise Line, shall be admitted into the Union, with or without slavery, as the people of each State, asking admission shall desire; and in such State or States as shall be formed out of said territory, north of said Missouri Compromise Line, slavery, or involuntary servitude (except for crime) shall be prohibited.

The following is a hypothetical secession scenario.

The deep red states secede, these being: Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, and West Virginia. Don't include states with big blue cities.

The rural sections of blue states secede from the state and join an adjacent red state, leaving the cities behind. This includes territory from Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio.

The red territory in Canada secedes from Canada and joins the American red states to form Red Nation. What's left behind becomes Blue Nation. The capital of Red Nation is placed on the Montana-Alberta border.

Red sections of blue cities secede from the city and form a new city.

Leftists will create autonomous zones in blue cities, weakening the cities.

Blue cities collapse in debt, violence, and emmigration. The most vulnerable blue cities are Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, Portland, and Seattle. Many cities go bankrupt.

Blue states collapse, the most vulnerable being Illinois and California.

Blue colleges collapse and new Institutes of Technology in Red Nation prosper. New colleges are built on cheap rural land.

Red Nation and Blue Nation fight an economic war. Every monopoly is muzzled in Red Nation. Red people in blue territory make a nuissance of themselves.
